A SHORT PROFILE
Our Association was established in 1973. From its constitutional amendment it is anindependent body,
which works under certain legal articles of incorporation. The operations of our Association are supervised
by the Perfecture (under the Mayor) of Thessaloniki and the Higher Court of Thessaloniki, as the law requires.
EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
In our seat at Thessaloniki (3, Soutsou str. GR 546 30) we work Communicational and Educational Center
(Sight and Sign). Special Classes are running for low-educated Deaf adults. These classes are based on
Greek Sign Language (GSL) . In order to help Deaf persons to join the Greek work market,
in cooperation with the Demos Foundation in Chicago USA, we have established three classes: a) a
Computer Laboratory, b) a Graphic Arts Laboratory and c) Video-recording Laboratory.
In these laboratories we are training children and young Deaf people who have graduated high school.
Since 1984 we have been organizing GSL Classes for Hearing people in order to give them the
opportunity to become teachers and/or interpreters for the Deaf. It's important to mention that the last few
years we have succeeded to cooperate with the E.C. and Education Ministry on the GSL classes for hearing
people which gives a higher importance to our educational work.
Our Association has successfully cooperated with the following educational foundations:
- Gallaudet University in Washington D.C.- Educational Academy of Thessaloniki. - Educational Department of Aristotle Univ.
Thessaloniki - Educational Department of University Florina. - I.N.T.D. Rotchester Institute of Technology
- University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki.
